Enhance Your Leadership

District 40 received feedback recently regarding district leadership opportunities.

The feeling seems to be that these appointments go to the same people instead of being offered to members who are looking to become leaders.  The perception is you have to know the right people to get these opportunities.  In a sense, that is true.  Many members do not know who to contact if they are interested in leadership opportunities in the district.  The top district leaders are elected during the business meeting at the spring conference.

If you are interested in running for District Governor, a Lt. Governor or Division governor, please submit your paper work to Immediate Past District Governor, W. D. Smith.

If you are interested in becoming an Area Governor for next year, it is a position appointed by the elected District Governor.  Currently we are creating a list of candidates to provide to the elected District Governor in April.  To be added to the list to be considered by the elected District Governor, please send your name to Lt. Gov. Education and Training Eileen James.

If you would like to serve as a club coach or mentor in the district, please contact Past District Governor Kevin Vorheis or Lt. Gov. Marketing Earl Kersting for appointment.

Last year we sent 400 invitations to members throughout the district asking them if they would be interested in becoming district leaders.  The list included members serving as club officers or name noted in an area governor visit as potential leaders.  Out of those invites, 30 people volunteered to fill the 40 appointed roles.  That left us still looking for the additional members.  We then asked the volunteers to find assistants who will be interested in shadowing the role for a year before being considered for next year.  Only 20 members volunteered to be assistants.   The call for club coaches continues to go unanswered as 50 clubs are eligible for a coach to be assigned but are still waiting for someone to be assigned.

If your goals include achieving your DTM or an ALS, please reach out to your current Area, Division, or District leaders to learn more about being a District leader. If you want to know more about the roles and opportunities, we are happy to talk with you or send you information about it. A list of the current District officers is available on the District 40 website.

  1. Why aren’t these forms available on the D 40 website? My browser kept closing when I tried to access the link from W.D.’s e-mail.
