Inspiration and Motivation
What is the difference between inspiring and motivating your audience? I never saw much of a difference until this week. I was listening to our CEO talk about our initiatives this year and I became inspired to be customer focused in my efforts. But by the time I returned to my desk, the realization of just how little an impact I could make in my position set in and I started to go back to old habits. Then my boss called me into her office and outlined what was expected of me in our day to day efforts in order to meet our objectives. Suddenly I was motivated to do my job in support of the company. This year we have been promoting the concept of Total Engagement Across Membership (TEAM) and being a neighbor to struggling clubs near you. Many members liked the message and were inspired by it. But then when they got back to their clubs, it became too easy to fall back into old habits. Our District is struggling with a large number of clubs looking for help. It could come from a club coach or a neighboring club reaching out to help. We have lost clubs and are attempting to find new ones to replace them but we need help identifying them and people to mentor them. We have had approximately 1,000 members not renew their membership. Why? Don’t be inspired to think you have to solve all the District problems, be motivated in your area to help your club, or a neighboring club. Don’t be inspired to find all 1,000 new member, be motivated to find 1. Be inspired and get motivated!
