Profile of Frank Chi

Frank is the 2011-12 Eastern Division Governor.

I am married to Sharon with two fur kids Mozart and Bach. I was trained as civil engineer.

Before I started my career as logistician in 2007, I had been an insurance agent, nonprofit organization’s health program coordinator and manager, and church deacon.

I love to travel, care environment, and enjoy photography and meeting with people. In March 2007, the simply purpose that I joined Toastmasters Club was to improve my communication skills. Surprisingly, I gained more than I expected. Toastmasters program helps me to fine tune my communication skills piece by piece. The leadership program also constantly helps me to enhance my people skills through various leadership projects and trainings.

Two incidents in my second year 2008 as a toastmaster changed my life dramatically. An unexpected life threaten health issue emerged to my life when I had my first club officer training as club VPE. I made a miracle come back after six weeks recovery. To get my CC and CL in two years was my main motivation.

A Group Of Individuals Seeking Self Improvement (AGOISSI) is the first Toastmasters Club I joined. The last three years as E23 area governor (2010-2011), 3500 Club president (2009-2010), and 3500 Club VP of Education, I am pleased to assist or lead E23 area and club 3500 to highest status “President Distinguished” the area or club could reach. In 2010-2011, E23 is one of only two areas among all 38 District areas that all five clubs in the area have reached distinguished status or better and built a new club in the 12th month.

Serving as Eastern Division Governor 2011-2012 would be a good challenge. I wish work closely with six great area governors to grow the division from 31 clubs to 38 clubs with net membership growth 65+ or 635 to 700+ toastmasters a year after. Last three years toastmasters has transformed me inside out. Toastmaster seems embedded into my DNA stream. I could blend in communication skills and leadership skills that I have developed from the program with my other interests to make me a much effective communicator. Since photographic is the graphic form of communication. I really wish the people I reach out could sense and see the benefit what the toastmasters program could change people’s life in a good way.

In short, Toastmasters has transformed me from a bridge builder to a community builder. Instead of using cement, water, and steel to build a bridge, I now use words, personal stories and skills I have acquired from group of toastmasters to motivate or inspire people while I am speaking or talking.
